Saint Germain

Saint Germain is Paris' boho-chic district, famous for its café culture. Situated on the left bank of the Seine, Saint Germain maintains intellects' cafés from last century, for example Les Deux Magots, once frequented by Hemingway, Sartre and Picasso. It is full of Parisian charm, explore an array of art galleries, boutiques, modern cuisine, cafes, and busy night spots and bars when the sun goes down. For a quieter atmosphere in Paris the Luxembourg palace and gardens are also located in this district. Built for Marie de Medicis in the early 17th Century, the ‘Jardin du Luxemberg’ is a peaceful sprawling beauty after a busy day.

The apartment was fantastic and really suited our needs. Roger made us feel very welcome and clearly explained how to use the appliances. We encourage all who stay here to consider the restaurant recommendations found in the guide book provided, in particular those restaurants in the section relating to gastronomic restaurants (not necessarily within walking distance). We took up some of their suggestions and had very good meals in restaurants we would never have gone to. We particularly enjoyed Cobea, a restaurant in Montparnasse. Thanks again for providing accommodation that enhanced our holiday and for making everything so easy. Marie May 2013

Description

This charming and bright 45 m2 one-bedroom luxury apartment is situated in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Près, one of Paris’ most centrally located neighborhoods. This gem of a pied-à-terre combines the best of vieux Parisian style with the comfort and convenience of luxurious modern amenities. Three flights up a staircase in a 17th century building, this stylish property has recently undergone a full renovation and redecoration to become an elegant and refined base from which you can explore Paris.

Double-paned glass, electric heat, and central air conditioning keep the apartment comfortable and quiet in any season. High-quality modern furnishings, including a classy leather sofa that converts to a queen-sized bed, create a striking contrast to the exposed wooden beams that date back to the 1600s. The common area features a flat screen television with cable and a multi-zone DVD player, as well as a computer desk which houses a PC laptop with high speed wireless internet so that you are able to stay connected while enjoying your luxurious Paris vacation.

An open kitchen, elegantly outfitted with sophisticated dark wood cabinets and a stone countertop, is fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, washer/dryer, dishwasher, and cooking utensils. The dining table can comfortably seat four.

The bedroom invites you to relax and unwind. Windows that open onto the interior courtyard ensure you will have a quiet night's sleep, while luxurious 400 thread count cotton linens and European down duvets and pillows afford the best of comfort. A closet and built-in wood shelves provide storage. The bathroom, connected to both the bedroom and the living area, has contemporary fixtures including a generously sized stone walk-in shower with a ceramic seat, large showerhead/fountain shower and heated towel rack.

You are also in the perfect location from which to explore the city. Within two blocks of the apartment are two metro stations (Odéon and Mabillon), a taxi stand, and numerous bus lines. Just a 5 minute walk away are the beautiful and tranquil Luxembourg Gardens, ideal for a stroll, a jog, or a picnic. You are surrounded by such historic landmarks as the Sorbonne, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, and the Musee de Cluny. Within a fifteen-minute walk are the Musée d’Orsay, Musée Rodin, and Centre Georges Pompidou, as well as many other museums and galleries. Down the street and across the Pont Neuf is Ile St Louis, where you can take in the breathtaking stained glass windows of Sainte-Chapelle and the renowned Notre-Dame Cathedral. You will also want to spend time wandering the winding streets of St. Germain with their stylish boutiques, classic sidewalk cafés, bookstores, and cozy French bistros. And just minutes down the boulevard St. Germain are the Café Flore and les Deux Magots, favorite spots of famous French existentialists and expatriat American literati including Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, Jean-Paul Sartre, and Simone de Beauvoir.

Please note:
** We are happy to accommodate children aged 12 and older in this apartment.
** Please be aware that the 3 flights of stairs to the flat are steep and would be a problem for someone who has trouble climbing.
** You may hear some noise from the street in the flat with windows open, but there is AC for hot summer months.
