Aix en Provence surroundings

Aix en Provence surroundings

Description

As soon as you enter the house, you fall under the charming spell of its distinctive world, made from the happy mixture of authenticity and fantasy. You won’t find any over-the-top luxury nor fake Provencal style here.  Gorgeous old objects, such as the blue earthenware stove or the sumptuous tiled floor mix with large colourful paintings, mismatched chairs, and modern, practical furniture.

This old Provencal farmhouse has found a new lease of life under the guidance of the artist owner with a warm touch, who transformed it into a welcoming and cheerful family home.

Add to this the beauty of the surrounding nature, the tranquility coming from the tree lined hectare and a half of land, the pleasure of the large secured pool, and the proximity from Aix-en-Provence (10 minutes from the centre by car), and you will be seduced by this unique location.

On the ground floor, there is a large living area with a piano and desk space, a dining room for large group meals, and a lovely well-equipped kitchen. Next to the kitchen is a small living room with a TV and sofa.

The master bedroom opens out onto the garden. It has a large round bed and its own bathroom with a shower.

The other five bedrooms are on the first floor, accessed via two sets of stairs, one leading to the right wing and the other to the left (it isn’t possible to walk between the two wings). On the left wing, there is a double bedroom with a balcony, a room for older kids with a single bed, and a room for the younger ones with trundle beds. They share a large bathroom with a bath.

On the right side, there is one double bedroom and one with trundle beds, as well as a bathroom with a shower. This brings the total to 11 beds.

The shaded terrace will be a most popular place to have lunch accompanied by the sound of cicadas, and to spend evenings bathed in the Provencal warmth.

The swimming pool is specially adapted to young children as it has a 2.5m wading pool and locks securely.

Linens, sheets, and towels are provided. The beds will be freshly made on arrival. Weekly housekeeping is included with the rental, along with cleaning on departure.
You will find toiletries in the bathrooms and a gourmet food basket in the kitchen. The farmhouse is in Saint-Marc de Jaumegarde, 6km east of Aix-en-Provence and 3km from Tholonet. The village of Tholonet was a popular location for Cezanne’s paintings, the red earth, grey rock, and blue sky framing the Sainte-Victoire Mountain make for an extraordinary colour palette. Cezanne also painted Tholonet Castle, and this is a stop on the tour retracing his favourite sites to paint.

Many nice restaurants serve lunch or dinner in their garden or terrace, shaded in the rustic and romantic atmosphere. Despite being a residential area, Saint-Marc stands out without a village like you would expect, but villas scattered around the hills along rural paths – paradise for hikers or mountain bikers.

The villa’s location lets you easily reach the Calanques cliffs in Cassis (30 minutes) or to the other side, the Provencal countryside. Aix-en-Provence, with its exceptional heritage, is only 15 minutes’ drive. Aix-en-Provence is unmistakable a magnificent city with many attractions. All you need is to walk down the lanes to discover the architectural heritage and fantastic culture, with the pretty squares, fountains, historical monuments, and museums. And definitely don’t miss the Provencal market on Saturday mornings! Aix is also a vibrant and shimmering spa town, which attracts the young and the less young. A multitude of activities are on offer under the Provencal sunshine, in one of the south of France’s most dynamic towns!
