Château Renaissance comes with its own string of people who have fallen in love with this perfect piece of France, in the Dordogne-Southern Limousin borders.
In the late 19th century a colonel was so enchanted by the beautiful scenery he stationed himself there with his troops for months, before buying farmland as the setting for his future home; a château, which he would build completely in Renaissance style. It remained in the colonels’ family until the 1930s when it became the elegant summer home of a well-known Parisian family, who along with two further owners, added their own touches of finesse, high quality furnishings and artwork.
Fast-forward to 2006, and the château and its three hectares of park and gardens becomes the home and dream-come-true of a charming Dutch couple and their warm hospitality. Although they still own and cherish the original detailed building plans of the colonel, they too have added their own touches in a major restoration and renovation of a very high standard, which preserves the château’s original character and historical heritage. High detailed ceilings, large restored windows with internal shutters, original stone or wooden fireplaces, parquet floors and wall paneling are some of the features that adorn the beautifully appointed rooms.
Guests will immediately be transported as they enter the grounds through a private gated entrance before driving down the 100-metre tree-lined drive to be greeted by the grandeur of the château, set against a hill, blessing it with breathtaking views. Surrounding the château are the hills and woods the colonel fell in love with and the mesmerizing tranquility if this beautiful countryside.
The private grounds are equally stunning with terraces, three wells, manicured parkland of seven acres with mature and centennial trees, wonderful views and the perfect setting for enjoying blissful silence and perhaps a bit of star-gazing.
The château is located on the outskirts of a village just 20 kilometres from Brive-la-Gaillarde and perfectly positioned for visiting this area packed with beautiful scenery, history and things to do. Within reach are walking trails, Lascaux caves, châteaux, French gardens of the Périgord Noir and villages such as Sarlat, Collonges la Rouge, Perigueux and Arnac-Pompadour.
