Illes Balears

Description

A traditional Mallorquin home full of character, built hundreds of years ago, with every modern comfort you may need in the heart of one of the island’s most picturesque villages, Deia. You have to walk down a little path and up quite a few steps to reach this magnificent house but it is worth the effort as you are rewarded by breath-taking views and a very special location.

The villa has been recently renovated to a high standard and the owners have lovingly created a home full of tradition with contemporary touches. The comfortable living-dining room is ideal for families to spend time playing games or watching films on cooler evenings and there is a well equipped kitchen for cooking up a feast. The house is decorated with antiques and beautiful pieces of art, reflecting the ambience and history of Deia.

There are three bedrooms over the top two floors, and two very modern bathrooms. The top bedroom, ‘the tower’, is a light and spacious space with four shuttered windows overlooking the mountains. Rooms are decorated with simplicity and style with white washed walls, beamed ceilings and antique furniture.

Step out of the dining area to the first of two terraces, perfect for al-fresco dining under the large olive tree, gazing at the mountain view. Steps lead down to a lower terrace with sunloungers, a palm and almond tree and a refreshing plunge pool for guests to enjoy in the warm summer months.

Deia is an idyllic village on the west coast of Mallorca, perched high up with stunning views down to the crystal clear seas. With a stunning backdrop of the ‘Sierra de Tramuntana’, the beautiful village is typically Mediterranean with green shuttered stone houses and narrow streets of pretty boutiques, art galleries, upmarket restaurants, cafes and Mallorquin tapas bars. It is very popular with tourists in the summer, with good reason as visitors come to experience the arty and bohemian vibe, just like the late Robert Graves did when he lived in the village in the nineteeth century.

Cala Deia is a beautiful sheltered pebble cove, a thirty minute steep walk downhill from the village (or a five minutes drive) where you will find a superb rustic seafood restaurant overlooking the sea.

The pretty town of Soller is a dramatic 10km drive away, a beautiful town so popular with walkers or tourists looking to get off the beaten track.  Take the old wood panelled train through the orange groves from Soller to Palma for a day trip to the magnificent city. /n Security deposit /n 300 Euros (payable with final balance) /n Arrival time /n 1500 to 2000 unless otherwise arranged /n Departure time /n 10am /n Energy costs included? /n Yes /n Linen & towels included? /n Yes, for house use only, changed weekly for two week stay /n Pets welcome? /n No /n Other Ts and Cs /n The villa is accessed approx 75m from the road along a village path and up steps.
