Great Wines of Bordeaux - Horse hike
Eight centuries of history are not enough to explain the immense prestige of the Bordeaux wines. The connoisseurs of horses and high-class wines will love this exceptional travel through one of the most extended vineyards of the world : Medoc, Côte de Blaye, Côte de Bourg, Bordeaux, lalande-Pomerol, Saint Emilion, Entre-deux-mers, Graves and Sauternes. You will discover the Citadel of Blaye, the medieval city of St Emilion, the medieval castle of Rauzan and the village of Cadillac. Your evenings with the wine producers will enable you to enjoy some hidden treasures of the area. You will also take the ferry on approximately three kilometres to cross the Estuary of the Gironde.
Arrival the day before in Bordeaux. Transfer to a hotel*** (with a swimming pool) close to Bordeaux for dinner and the night. Day 1: After the breakfast, transfer to Castelnaud du Medoc. Departure from the Château Pomery in the direction of Gironde river, through the forest of Les Landes. Pastoral lunch on the river bank close to an old water mill. Crossing of the Medoc vineyards where the famous "Cabernet Sauvignon" grapes dominate. You will then cross the Garonne river by ferry (!). By this very small river scenic way, you will discover another aspect the majestic Citadelle of Blaye that you will then visit. Tasting of Côte de Blaye Wine before a good dinner and a well deserved night in the hotel**. Day 2: The Blayais vineyard consists of such an incredible richness of the ground. You will ride through the hills covered by Côte de Bourg vineyards. Pastoral lunch and tasting with the wine grower. You will then go on your trip through meadows and vineyards before being accommodated with a wine grower for a tasting of Bordeaux wines, a good meal and a well deserved nights sleep. Day 3: Departure for the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur vineyards, whose first wines date from the time of Roman legions. The wine was then known as Burdigala (Latin name of Bordeaux). Ride through landscapes of hills strewn with vines and forest before your lunch halt and a tasting (Bordeaux Supérieur) at the Château Courrège. Direction Libourne by the Fronsac vineyards, famous for having one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Bordeaux region. Dinner and a night at a hotel** around Libourne. Day 4: Morning with a tasting halt at Château Bellegrave (Lalande Pomerol). Pastoral lunch and free visit of the famous medieval city of Saint Emilion. Tasting of the remarkably typified wines, coming from very diverse soils and grapes. Ride on the banks of the Garonne river. Dinner and a night at a hotel**. Day 5: Crossing of varied landscapes of small valleys, forests, vines and meadows before a visit of the castle of Rauzan (XIIIème century). Classified historic building since 1862, it is located on a hillock and is surrounded by an enclosure with thick walls studed to resist the keenest attacks. You will continue by a tasting of Entre-deux-mers wines and a lunch. In the afternoon, you will reach the old village of Cadillac. It was been founded on the recommendations of King of England Henri III. At that time, the English people gathered the grapes in Aquitaine. Tasting of Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and free visit of the city. Night in a charming wine grower B&B. Day 6: Before departure, tasting of the wines of Cadillac and Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. Crossing of the Garonne river to join the Graves and Sauternes vineyards. This area is where the ground is often made of thick layers of gravel and require from the vine the best of it. You will be accomodated by the Château Gravas. You have a pastoral lunch at the Château Gravas. Tasting of Graves and Sauternes. Ultimate horse riding until Sauternes. Dinner and night in a Charming B&B. Day 7: Return with the minibus to starting point.
